Digital Nomad Visa Spain 2023 Update

Digital Nomad Visa Spain 2023

The DNV, Digital Nomad Visa Spain, has been a point of interest for many over the past 18 months or so. Particularly since moving to Spain has become so much more complicated for British passport holders.

There has been so much “noise” online about Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa that, here at Move to Malaga, we decided to avoid all the speculation, let the dust settle, and provide you with the facts that are now finally appearing.

Don’t let the social media ideology of a “digital nomad” mislead you into thinking that this is for carefree singletons working from their laptops from beneath palm trees (Sorry. I couldn’t resist!)

This visa also offers a great opportunity for families to enjoy family life in Spain!

In a nutshell, what is the Digital Nomad Visa Spain?

  • It is a visa that was approved on 23rd December 2022
  • It is for non-EU nationals who wish to work remotely from Spain.
  • You can apply for this type of visa if you work for a company based outside of Spain
  • The visa allows for your spouse or partner and children under 18 to reside in Spain with you
  • The visa entitles you to a reduced non-resident tax rate: ie. 24% up to 600,000 euros. 600,000.01 euros upwards, the tax rate will be 47%.
  • The initial visa allows 2 years of residency and work in Spain.

To apply for the DNV you need to be able to prove:

  • Your work can be carried out remotely.
  • You are under contract to a company that permits remote working and that you have had a professional relationship with the company for at least three months. The company needs to have been established for at least 12 months.

NOTE: If you are a freelancer, you need to prove details of the companies outside of Spain who you work with and provide agreed terms and conditions of the remote work. Work for Spanish companies may not exceed 20%.

  • You are not in Spain illegally.
  • You have no criminal record in Spain or in the country (countries) you have lived in for the last five years.
  • You have sufficient health insurance (contact us about this!)
  • You can prove *sufficient funds, for yourself and your dependents.

*Sufficient funds  (figures for 2023):

Main applicant – 200% minimum salary, ie  €1,100 x 200% = €2,200.

First dependent (i.e. spouse) – 75% minimum salary, €1,100 x 75% = €825.

Further dependents (i.e. children) – 25% minimum salary each, €1,100 x 25% = €275 each.

Tips for applying for your Digital Nomad Visa Spain:

  • The application process is easier done once in Spain
