How to Apply for a Digital Nomad Visa for Spain

In this post we are going to show you how to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa for moving to Spain. If you meet the requirements and are organised, you can quite easily apply for your own visa.

Applying for a Digital Nomad Visa, using experienced professionals, is a safe option but it can also be expensive! As this visa is relatively new, there are still many uncertainties. However, as with most Spanish paperwork, mistakes can be costly! 

If you are going to pay a professional, ensure they have the relative experience.

Before deciding if you should apply for your own visa, check you can provide the following:

  • Copy of all pages of a valid non-EU passport
  • Work contract with an existing client of over 3 months, who is a registered business, that has been operating for more than 12 months (subject to being employed or self employed).
  • Bank statement showing the last 3 months’ payments from clients/employer
  • An official document to prove that the client company has been operating for more than 12 months 
  • A letter from the client company authorizing the work to be carried out in Spain
  • Documentary evidence of qualifications or relative experience (minimum 3 years) for the work to be carried out.
  • Applicants CV, translated into Spanish.
  • Social security documentation. (subject to being employed or self-employed).
  • Private health insurance policy (Optional subject to circumstances) 
  • Official Criminal Background Check Document
  • Declaration of a clear criminal background in the countries where you have been resident in the last 5 years.

If you can provide all the required documentation then this is How to Apply for Digital Nomad Visa in 5 simple steps…

  1. Apply for your NIE in your home country, before you move. This will save you a lot of time on arrival in Spain! In some areas, there are long waiting times for NIE appointments.
  2. Collate all the required documents and prepare for notarising/translating. A few days before your planned arrival in Spain, ensure you have all the required documents in order, apostilled and translated where necessary. (More details here)
  3. On arrival in Spain, apply for your Digital Certificate (See how here! Post to follow soon!).
  4. Collect your Digital Certificate. 
  5. Once you have your certificate, you can upload all your documents here: https://expinterweb.inclusion.gob.es/iley11/inicio/showTramites.action?procedimientoSel=200&proc=1

Remember, once your Digital Nomad visa is approved, you will need to apply for a TIE.  (Read how to apply here)
