Who can obtain a Digital Private Individual Certificate?

Any Spanish or foreign citizen of legal age or an emancipated minor in possession of a National Identity Card (DNI) or a Residence Card (NIE) may apply for and obtain a digital certificate.

What procedures can I carry out with my certificate?

You can securely process your paperwork with the Public Administration and Private Entities, online, with the Digital Private Individual Certificate. This includes:

  • Filing of tax returns and payment of your tax bill
  • Lodging appeals and claims
  • Completion of census forms (population and housing)
  • Registration on the electoral roll and consultations
  • Queries regarding traffic fines
  • Consultations and procedures regarding applications for grants
  • Consultations regarding the designation of polling stations

1. Obtain Your Certificate with Video Identification

To obtain the digital Certificate (as a downloadable file) you should carry out the four steps in the indicated order:

Online application for your Certificate. At the end of the application process, you will receive an Application Code in your email account. Identity accreditation with Video Identification. Once you have completed the previous phase and you are in possession of your Request Code. To continue with the process you must scan the QR that appears on the screen with your mobile phone. NOTE: This video identification service costs 2.99 euros + taxes. The certificate has no cost. Remember that, if you are going to use your citizen certificate to obtain a Representation certificate online, you must choose the in-person accreditation option.

Download your User Certificate. Good practices for correct video identification

To make a correct Video Identification, follow the following recommendations:

  • Use a quiet, well-lit space, without reflections on the camera. Remember that you must have good mobile coverage or Wi-Fi to be able to carry out the video identification successfully.
  • Ensure other people do not appear and no other voices should be heard.
  • The applicant must carry out the process, without assistance from another person.
  • The identification document must be the original, be current and not present any alterations such as breaks, wear, damage to corners or edges, etc.
  • If you are a minor, you must wait until you turn 18 to be able to request your certificate.

2. Obtain Your Digital Certificate Spain with in-person accreditation

To obtain the Digital Certificate (as a downloadable file) you should carry out the four steps in the indicated order:

Download your User Certificate. You put in your personal data (NIE number required, so you have to have that before) and download the software. Then you get a reference number. You print it out and get an appointment at one of the collaborating offices. MAP: https://mapaoficinascert.appspot.com/# There are always several options to choose from. You go there with your Passport and NIE number, show it to them, then you go home and can download the file with your electronic signature.

Now you can communicate with the Spanish government, the Social Security, etc and download all the correspondence, get  a new Padron Certificate online and much more.
